Question:

SpeedStream Compaq laptop wi-fi help?

I have a compaq laptop running Windows Vista, which I had to restore to factory default. However, I am now unable to wirelessly connect to our SpeedStream modem. It will not even detect that the modem is there. I remember having this problem when I first bought the laptop, but cannot remember how I resolved it. I have been playing around with the router settings by connecting to it with a cable, but I still can't work out what is wrong. The fact that it now refuses to work after restoring my laptop indicates to me that it is an error from the actual computer settings, and not from the router. However, I can't find anywhere on the computer where I can manually enter the information for the router... I can only find a "wi-fi wizard" that attempts to do everything automatically. Anyone know how I can fix this problem?

  1. Last I checked Speedstream modems were not for wireless internet. We have one and our tech guy hooked it up to a D-link router, which is the wireless source.
