Spirts/demons?

I was approched with this question.

What is your opinion on a theory that spirits are not who they appear to be, but instead the spirit is the disguise for a demon? For example you see the spirit of of Abe Lincoln. It looks like Lincoln but his spirit is actally inhabited by a demon pretending to be Lincon.

I don't believe this theory because I don't see why a demon would want to hide, it loses all the effect.

I am not sure what to think of that question. I don't mess with spirits/demons. The only spirit I recognize is the holy spirit.

My take is that spirits have a choice like people. They can choose their identity like we can choose what to wear.

The World of Spirit is much like the World of People.  

In our world, there are predators and mischievous animals

(such as the monkeys which "plague" the hospitals areas in

India, knowing that they will not be harmed, and break in and

steal food and scatter things about).

In the Spirit World...there are similar things.

An intelligent but non-human spirit could adopt a different

form if it wanted to...and Deceive.  Likewise the Earthbound

of an Angry or Malicious human might also do so if they were

skilled in the Arts before they died.

And such a thing is hardly specific to one culture.  The Native

Americans have folk-tales galore of Coyote, his mis-

adventures, and his attempts at Deception.

I believe that theory to be true.

EDIT:

I believe it because Satan wants us to believe that we have a choice..that we can come back..talk to our loved ones...right some wrongs...etc.

Once we're dead our option to do these things are over with.

There's only heaven or h**l.  We don't wander the earth like in shows like "Ghost Whisperer".

Earth bounds and dark elementals are two different types of energies. An Earth bound is the essence of an individual who has either not transitioned, has left an energy imprint, or will come back from time to time, usually with specific information/communication. A dark elemental, or demon, is an essence that has a specific purpose, for lack of a better description. They usually are tasked with some destructive detail; causing illness, anxiety, destruction of the psyche, etc.

An essence that has transitioned is not going to be inhabited by a demon. They focus on the living.
