what is the best way to heal a sprained ankle?

i have been icing it. i have volleyball everyday, and am on it a lot. should i wrap it or anything, or just let it heal on its own??

help!

  1. The human regeneration/healing system is only 70-80% effective in automatic mode, leaving to heal on it's own is asking for long term trouble. Read and apply http://www.helium.com/tm/148271 to speed up the healing process.


  2. For the first 48 hours it's usually ice 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off, repeat frequently. After that go to warm 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. Some people like to try a combo of ice/hot therapy instead of just hot. I have heard mixed results.

    Compression wraps to help limit some swelling but to also limit movement of the injured part. Elevation to help reduce swelling.

    Advil 600mg every 6 hours with food to help with pain but more importantly as an anti-inflammatory.

    I know sports is important to you but resting it really does help a lot.

  3. remember R.I.C.E.  Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.  Stay off it, ice it, wrap it up, and keep it elevated.
