Question:

Sprocket change for CBR 1000RR...?

I have a 2004 CBR 1000RR. I want to make a sprocket change for more torque. Do I go bigger (more teeth) or smaller (less teeth), and should I change the front sprocket or the back?

  1. Vortex makes a good set. If you go bigger in the back and smaller in the front(a few teeth less) the bike will come up on a wheelie much easier but you loose some top end speed. So its up to you what you prefer. I'd just leave it the way it is. Beautiful Bike by the way.     P.S. your odometer wont be acurate either, not sure which way, but more or less than actual miles will be displayed.

  2. I agree with Bimmer. Great machine already. If you want more out of the bike, maybe put a jet kit on it. Otherwise, just run it. I agree that this is a RACING question. LOL.

  3. Changing your sprockets will not give the engine any more torque.

It will only change your gearing.

In RACING you dont have to worry about this, as your team will do it for you.

Your question does not involve Racing so ..... try posting in :

  4. In the past I have dropped one tooth from the front and gone up two teeth on the back to get the acceleration I was looking for, obviously sacrificing top end.

If are using a standard length chain and it is new you may find that you can not go more than about one tooth bigger on the back, the difference from standard is not that noticeable, one tooth smaller on the front is roughly equivalent to two on the back.

If you going racing then the comment about the speedo not being right is irrelevant as I guess you would disconnect it anyway.

Don't forget that if you go much bigger on the back it will pull the rear wheel forward shortening the wheelbase.

Don't know about the Blade but it was easier to change the rear sprocket due to the amount of bits that needed removing to get to the front sprocket.

  5. I put a smaller sprocket on my bike and it gave me more top end speed, so.... less teeth than stock = more top end, more teeth than stock = more low end.
