  1. Sorry, I havent seen it at Walmart or SuperTarget.  Come to think of it, I havent seen spumoni in the grocer's freezer in ages!  There must be no demand for it these days.

  2. Here are some recipes..

    Spumoni Ice Cream

August 22nd is National Spumoni Ice Cream day! What better way to celebrate than making this fun and attractive dessert. Spumoni is a molded Italian dessert usually made by layering two or three different flavors ice cream with a layer of sweetened whipped cream which has nuts and candied fruit folded in. Spumoni is usually served in slices. Impress your family or guests with this cool treat.

    Recipe serves 10-12

    2 pints pistachio ice cream

    2 pints strawberry ice cream

    2 chocolate ice cream

    1 cup heavy whipping cream

    1/4 cup powder sugar

    1/4-1/3 cup candied cherries, chopped

    1/4-1/3 cup pecans, chopped

Line a 2 1/2 to 3 quart ice cream mold, loaf pan, or bowl with foil. (Foil will help the Spumoni come out easier). Place mold in freezer.

In a large bowl, beat pistachio ice cream until smooth - but not melted. Spread ice cream in bottom and up sides of chilled mold. Return mold to freezer and freeze until firm. Repeat process with strawberry ice cream. Whip cream and sugar until stiff. Fold chopped cherries and nuts into whipped cream. Fill mold with cream mixture. Freeze. Beat chocolate ice cream until smooth, but not melted. Spread chocolate ice cream on top of whipped cream. Return to freezer and freeze until firm.

To serve, invert mold on serving dish. Remove foil or plastic wrap from surface. A spatula dipped in hot water may be used to smooth creases in surface. Cut in slices and serve.

    Cherry Spumoni

    1 1/2 cups heavy cream

    1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk

    1/2 teaspoon rum flavoring

1 (21-ounce) can cherry pie filling

1 cup pitted fresh sweet cherries

    1/3 cup miniature chocolate chips

    1/3 cup slivered almonds, toasted

Combine heavy cream, sweetened condensed milk and rum flavoring in a large bowl; mix well. Refrigerate 30 minutes.

Lightly grease inside of a 9x5x3-inch baking pan. Cut a piece of plastic wrap 24-inches long. Line bottom and sides of pan with plastic wrap so that several inches of wrap overhang each long side.

Remove cream mixture from refrigerator. Beat with electric mixer on high speed 3 to 4 minutes or until soft peaks form. Do not overbeat. Fold in cherry pie filling, fresh sweet cherries, chocolate chips and almonds. Spoon mixture evenly into lined pan. Cover and freeze at least 5 hours or overnight.

To serve, quickly dip pan in hot water, immersing just the bottom and halfway up sides to help release ice cream. Using overhanging plastic wrap for handles, gently remove spumoni from pan and transfer to serving plate. Remove plastic wrap by lifting spumoni with metal spatula. Cut crosswise into slices and serve immediately.

  3. Edy's makes Spumoni and I'm pretty sure Wal Mart carries that brand. I've been able to request certain products in other stores(small independents) by talking to the person or manager that does ordering. It's worth a try. Once I requested marscapone cheese to make tiramisu- the manager at the store not only got the cheese in, but went one step further and got frozen tiramisu from the company that supplies Olive Garden.

  4. Hi. I don't know if you live in southern CA, but they have it at Ralph's. I also am pretty sure that Beyer's makes a spumoni-flavored ice cream; maybe your local supermarket would carry it.

    Good luck!

  5. I believe that I have seen it in Von's Stores (Safeway, i believe) and in Albertson's where I live. Try a chain grocery store rather than a SuperStore.
