Spyware activity visible?

Question

Can I write a program to detect activity of spyware like keyloggers. I can access system32 dlls and see keyboard events but can I actually see that a process is accessing keyboard information. I don't feel like scanning everything all the time (free antivirus). I would like to detect the problem when it is happening. I have XP and Vista Home.

SnoopFree and K-L detector both use heuristic techniques as you describe to detect keyloggers.
