Square saddle pad question?

on the saddle pad there is a velcro piece that hangs off what is that for?

Helps the PAD from slipping back ..

Some  Dressage pads are square !!

the Velcro strap is used to connect the saddle pad to the girth straps to stop the saddle from slipping.

Usually it is used to slip the girth buckes through before connecting it to the saddle. It holds the saddle pad in place and prevents it from slipping.

they go infront of the saddle and then around the girth (abouve the buckels) to hold it in place and stop it slipping backwards
