Can you work on aircraft parts on stainless steel benches. We recently upgraded our benches from laminate top to stainless steel and someone said that you cannot have aircraft parts on top of stainless steel because it may cause damage. Aside from being a hard material, is there any other concern?? please list your sources!

  1. There is nothing other than it is a hard surface and could damage the parts.  What else could it be?  Parts aren't usually on a bench long enough to cause corrosion.

I would get some yoga mats or low grade plywood to put sensitive parts on.

  2. no concerns at all.

  3. I don't see a problem with mechanical parts...  Electronic parts are a different story.  The surface of the stainless bench top needs to be properly grounded to prevent static or electrical shock to any electronic components.
