  1. Cat. Deceptive opportunities the stance creates.

  2. I always fight from a Kiba Dachi at 45 degrees, as it is the fighting stance of my system. ALL other stances are the transitioning stances. I train in all stances deep, but use them at about a mid to high level in life.

Even though Zenkutsu and Kokutsu are the other most commonly used stances in kata, I see them only as the stance to transition to while executing the technique and then return to Kiba. It is fundamentally important to train these stances to get the individual to not lean, and instead move their entire body maintaining balance and rooting.

Other stances, such as Kage and Mitsurin are for sinking and sinking rotating techniques, but not to be stood in longer than the necessary execution. Just like a Neko Dachi, which I see far too many people actually stand in as they're fighting stance.  "Saying I'm gonna phych you out about kicking or blah blah." That is a horribly unbalanced stance.

  3. I'm assuming you mean training. In that case, deep and low. Training in deep, low stances builds the muscles so that they're better able to generate power and otherwise effectively move.

During fights, there's only one stance: shizen no kamae (natural posture). Everything comes off of and returns to it, and it's perfectly versatile. [This is, by the way, meant to mean there is no "stance", just movement]

  4. full mount, or even better back mount (flattend out)

standing goes to the clinch though

  5. I prefer to stand a bit more upright and strike as I believe that is what I am best at but If we are talking street fight against someone bigger and more powerful than me, then I would probably take a much lower stance in order to leg dive and send him to the floor as a lot of people have some idea on how to strike but unless they are trained in ground fighting, havent a clue what to do on the floor

  6. A stance is strong as long as you keep your weight down. In a tug of war contest  between two ; the opponent who's weight comes up will get off balance and lose. keeping your weight down in any stance will lessen the power of a strike if you should get hit, his  strike's energy will  go to the ground if your weight is down ; if not you will get hurt. when your weight is down and your spine is straight it will be difficult to take you down,  but if your weight comes up you will balance and be taken down.. remember what goes up will come down and what goes down doesn't come up.
