  1. you will need to address the situation of a work permit before you leave, you cant apply for one while on a tourist visa

you could apply for a 12 month working holiday visa, this would be best as work visas are mainly for skilled workers, you don't have to stay the full 12 months but this visa will give you the option and allow you to work

    http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-...

  2. You need a working holiday visa to be allowed to stay for 6 months max I think, apply at www.immi.gov.au. You won't be able to get permanent residency though without qualifications.

For accommodation visit www.domain.com.au, and for jobs visit www.seek.com.au or www.careerone.com.au, or just ask around when you get here, there are plenty of bar jobs and similar available. Finding accommodation will be more difficult than jobs, as the economy is booming and rents are rising fast.

  3. If you want to work in Australia, you will need a working visa or a working holiday visa. http://www.immi.gov.au has the different types, processes and costs.

With your bar experience you would be able to get simular work in night clubs or pubs. I would suggest basing yourself in the city to increase your opportunity for work. The Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne would be best for you.

Stay in hotels or apartments for the first few days or weeks and hopefully you will have some work and your workmates might have a spare room or know of somewhere you could stay.

If you have other questions feel free to email me via the link on my profile.

    Enjoy your stay in Australia.

  4. Before you go (right now in fact), apply for a Working Holiday visa. If you decide to go home after your 5 weeks, that's fine, but if you want to stay, the visa will let you stay for 12 months and work wherever you wish - the only restriction is that you can't work for any given employer for longer than 6 months.

If you do seasonal farm related work in a regional area (determined by postcode) for at least 3 months, you will be able to apply for a second WH visa to extend your stay by another 12 months.

Go to http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-... for all information.

  5. If you can't get a visa that lets you work you can still get a job quite easily. You just have to wander around some of the little restaurant alley's (Block archade - Melbourne) and hand out your resume, they always need staff and they pay cash so its all very unofficial!
