Question:

Staying late at work?

I work in retail and after every shift the management forces the staff to stay anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour after our shift finishes, mostly unpaid. Would they have any right to fire me if i refused to do it? I worked it out and it turns out they're getting over a months free labour out of each and every staff member which i think is disgusting.

  1. You should join a Trade Union or whatever they called can't really remember. But yes, they COULD fire you, but if you were in a union you would then be able to refuse because the union will pick up on the free labour fact and will more than likely take the company to court or something if it's a serious issue and then the company won't fire you for refusing just so they don't go to court. If that makes sense.
