Question:

Staying with family I hardly know?

I'm 16 and I'm going to stay with my family in New Jersey because my grandma isn't doing well. I'm staying there with them without my brother, dad or mom.

I'm not really sure how to act since I haven't seen them in over four years. Should I always hang upstairs with them? Should I kinda stay on my own and let them be?

Thank you =]

  1. of course not, theyre your family, spend time with them, i got the perfect thing, sometimes on weekdays or friday night when nobodys out partying, my family will just sit down around 7 or 8, and since most movies on tv start around 7 or 8, we just all watch together, and during commercial time we talk and bond, and of course popcorn! the first few days you are there, observe them, and see the times when everybody is doing their own thing, and then time when the family is together, and slowly you can make a shcedule so you can also fit in with them and you can bond with them, do you have any family members your age there? maybe you could hang out with them and get to know their friends, this is a great opportunity to get your family closer to each other, here some things we do in my house, i think if you do them to itll get you on their good side:

-make your bed first thing in the morning

-after you make your bed, wash your face, and make yourself presentable for the day

-say good morning to everybody in the house (lol this is a very strict rule in my house, if i don't say good morning, my family makes a fit)

-pick up after yourself, especially since you're staying in another person's home

-don't stay up too late, some people actually have work in the morning

-think before you talk, whenever i don't think before i talk, i always seem to get myself into trouble

-don't put your feet on the coffee table lol

just a few tips for you, of course still hang out, and bond with each other, but remember that you're a guest, so you still gotta keep things under control

    good luck =]

  2. I THINK YOU SHOULD HANG WITH THEM THIS WAY U WILL GET TO NO THEM N HOW THEY ACT AROUND YOU,AND THEY WILL GET THE CHANCE TO GET TO NO U,,PEACE

  3. Take your cue from them, they will probably welcome you and do everything in their power to make you feel at home.  Show them respect, be polite, help out with chores and you will do fine.

  4. I don't think you need to be with them 24/7, they might need some space and so will you.  But, it would look bad (rude) if you spent most of the day in your room or some place else.  Try to hang around with them whenever the whole family's supposed to be together, like for having dinner and stuff.  Try not to seem antisocial, but do have some time for yourself or you'll go crazy.
