In the lab, when we cultured bacteria, we had a bunsen burner lit to sterilize the forceps when we changed mouthwashes we were testing. ( we dipped the forceps in alcohol, then burned). Does the bunsen Burner also sterilize the air to any extent?

  1. Well the air in the flame and directly around it will likely heat up enough to kill any bacteria and other pathogens. Other than that, it's not going to sterilize the air (or any large portion of it).
