Steven Gerrard staying with Liverpool
Yesterday Roy Hodgson secured the services of Joe Cole, today it looks as though he has made an even bigger coup for Liverpool, with Steven Gerrard committing his future to the club.
The Reds captain has ended months of speculation regarding his future, declaring he has held talks with Hodgson and is enthusiastic about the future of the club.
"I wanted the chance to meet Roy Hodgson privately and having done so, I'm very impressed with his plans for the future,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
Gerrard has also commented on the arrival of Cole and how he is looking forward to playing alongside his England international teammate.
"It is a great signing for us. I know Joe well through the England set-up and have seen firsthand just how good a player he is,” he said.
“He has proved his ability over many years in the Premier League - sometimes against us - so it will be fantastic to play alongside him in a red shirt for Liverpool."
The influential Reds skipper, who has been with the Merseyside giants since he was eight, revealed he had spoken to Cole prior to the former Chelsea man signing for the club.
"I've told him what a great club this is and I'm sure Joe's the sort of exciting talent our fans will love to see.”
