I filed my taxes claiming one child. I received my stimulas payment for myself and the child. My question is after I had filed my tax return I had went to court for my son and was given permission to claim him on my tax return so I filed an amended return. Will I receive a stimulas payment for this child and when?

  1. I think the stimulus payment was for working adults only, or married and one not working. Now if you claimed a child tax credit then you will not get as much i think. Having another dependant child to claim has nothing to do with this stimulus thing.

  2. No, you won't get it - the stimulus payments for children are based on your original return, not on the amendment.

  3. Your 2nd sentence says "I received my stimulus payment for myself and the child".   If so, you won't get a 2nd check for that child.

If your "son" in the 3rd sentence is a 2nd child, you may get a 2nd check.

  4. The answer is yes sort of.  The stimulus payment is based on the 1st tax return you file in 2007, amended or subsequent returns will not increase your payment.  That being said, you can claim the economic recovery credit in your 2008 return and get the extra $300 you should have gotten for your extra dependent you should have gotten on the stimulus payment.
