Stolen creditcardnumber?

somebody stole my creditcardnumber(from my tcf-bankaccount) and payed there 1600$ bill at consumers energy.I still have my card, so I guess this person got somehow acsess to it.

I cancel my card and my husband contacted the bank, so they can investigate that case.the amount is still pending, so we have to wait a few days.I called consumer energy, but they couldnt help me yet either.

can they figure out, who used our bankaccount to pay there energybill(I guess this person did it online or over the phone).

I am sooo concerned, our bankaccount is negative, we just had a couple months ago a Baby....who would do something like that?)

I usually never use my card, I pay all my bills with check and in the stores most of the times cash.

are we gonna get our money back?

Unfortunately, the only honest answer you can get from here is "Maybe."

Credit Cards are dangerously easy to defraud in most cases.  A friend of mine had that happen, and because of some very fine print under the definition of Identity Theft, she got the bank to determine that it was Fraud and not ID Theft, and therefore the Bank was able to claim against their insurance and pay my friend back in full.

You will likely want to contact/alert the police to this crime (don't call 911, but rather your local office) as well as the bank.  The more people you can get on your side, the better.  Remember, Consumer Energy doesn't have to answer your questions, and in fact may be obligated to NOT tell you information like that.  However, the police with a warrant can attain a surprising amount of cooperation and information when they decide they really want to get it.

Good News: My friend got all her money back, and had a new card safely re-issued.  Hopefully, you will too.

Credit card companies usually have great fraud prevention.

Also, if they paid their bill then there will be a definite paper trail.  When the amount is no longer pending you'll be able to get the information from consumer energy as to who it paid for.

You should also call the police.  They will be able to help you file a formal report of theft.
