  1. the best way is to bust the E.O.T into emergency this will set off all the DB-20 emergency potions within 5 seconds and that train crew better hang on tight!  this will stop the train from back to front instead of front to back which would cause the cars to jack knife at worst you will have some cracked knuckles and some damaged  draft gears but it's better than 70 cars derailed

  2. use the emergency service handle in the forward operating cab

  3. If you are running with the slack bunched, do it from the head end, or you are guaranteed to wind up with a train in two or more pieces as you will have a major run out of the slack.

If running with the slack stretched, do it from the rear to keep the slack stretched.  Don't forget to bail off, or the resulting run in may put some cars in the ditch.

An emergency brake application propagates at, rounded off, 1000 feet per second.  You will buy no more time from plugging the train from one end or the other.

Perform your primary task and control the slack.
