Strange changing Ph?

Hi, my tap water is Ph 7.0 but my tank water is Ph 7.6 the tank contains bog wood, slate, fish and plants any idea's why the change in Ph level?

  1. Something is leeching calcium or carbonates, the bogwood and water changes are keeping it in check.

    A thought is your gravel or pebbles are for a salt water aquarium or the slate isn't aquarium slate. It can't be the fish or the plants.

    Try the vinegar test. Place a small amount of gravel, pebbles and slate separately in a container of vinegar. If any start to give of bubbles there is your culprit.

    Fancy the slate might be the problem, but you will have to do individual tests to be sure.


  2.   What kind of rocks do you use to decorate with other than slate? What kind of gravel do you use? These are a couple of things that can cause your ph to rise.
