Question:

Strange weather on the east coast?

I live on the coast of South Carolina and it is hurricane season and there have been no hurricanes, just occasional thunderstorms and sometimes tornados. This far into hurricane season the past few years there have been about..1-3 hurricanes, but there have been none! It has also been unusually rainy. What could be causing these unusual weather patterns?

Thank you very much in advance =]

  1. There were not 1-3 hurricanes by this point during the last few seasons. Last year, the first hurricane did not form until August 16th (Hurricane Dean), and in 2006 the first hurricane did not form until August 27th (Hurricane Ernesto). The hyper-active 2005 season DID feature 3 hurricanes by this point, but that was a very rare occurrence. During an average year, the first hurricane (meaning a tropical cyclone with winds over 74mph) does not form until August 14th, so we are still very much on schedule.

  2. Don't listen to the weather experts, as they are the ones who said there would be a record hurricane season last year, and it turned out that none happened.
