Stretched ears hurting!?

Ive stretched my ears up to 1/2 inch it took about a year and a half

and i haven't stretched them in atleast 5 months and don't plan on it either but ive noticed that if i leave my plugs in for a few days w/o taking them out they get kinda "pus-ie" its not like crazy dripping from my ears puss but it does bother me and some times they sting as if there's tiny cuts in my ears and the puss drys and makes like little scabs on my ears it usually goes away after a day if i leave the plugs out for most of the day I'm just wondering what causes this

and its different from "ear cheese" or the dead skin cells that collect on your plugs and make them smell XP

(i wear glass tunnels never any acrylic because i know i there bad for your ears and there's no cracks or anything in them)

  1. ah that's normal. if you didn't skip a size (because the timeframe you listed is actually quite good) then it's ok. Pus and lymph is to be expected with any fresh stretch/piercing. Soreness is also to be expected.

If it starts bleeding though, they you have done something wrong and you'll have to downsize.

good job on choosing glass tunnels... i hope they're single or no flared?

  2. If your ears get aggravated when you don't take your plugs out, then take them out.

Since you've had your current size for so long, you should be able to leave your plugs out overnight every few nights (or every night if you prefer)

Glass tunnels may not be letting your ears breathe the way they need to. Your ears may be particularly sensitive to being pressed up against the glass of your jewelry for days on end. Think of the inside of your piercing like any other skin. Would your cheek do well squeezed up against a pane of glass for a week? Probably not.

Even if you don't leave your plugs out overnight, a few hours of letting them air dry after a good cleaning while you're hanging around the house can do them a lot of good. Allowing your ears time without your jewelry in gives them time away from the tension of your jewelry and can improve circulation to the tissue.

Aside from regular cleaning and airing your piercings out, you could also try organic plugs instead. You may have a better reaction to organics because they're more porous. You will have to take careful care of organic plugs, but it may be worth a little more work to you =)
