  1. verticle bars show readiness to breed.....

horizontal bars are stress indicators, is she in water with other fish? bullies? or territorial females? she needs some plant to hide in, like the java moss....this floats and settles in the bottom, giving her a place to rest or hide

.....place the two bowls next to each other...the male should flare and wiggle, and blow a bubble nest

....that is the time the female will begin to show bars and fill with eggs (if she is old enough)

...when the nest is bubbled up, place the female in his bowl, she will lay eggs....then replace her into her own bowl

...the male will scoop the eggs with his mouth to place them into the nest, he will fan the water and guard the nest
