  1. Never strip a  smooth JRT.

Show people will tidy up their coat.

A JRT sheds very little and has a low maintenance coat. Brush weekly and bathe monthly.

  2. Show terriers are stripped by hand or with a stripping comb. If you have a rough coated JRT, you can strip it to neaten it up some, but it isn't necessary.

It won't reduce shedding any more than regular brushing does. Hand stripping is done on show dogs instead of using clippers because it helps maintain the coat condition without damaging the surrounding coat.

Really not necessary for a pet JRT. It's time consuming to do yourself and expensive to pay a groomer to do.

  3. You only strip a JRT with a wirecoat, not a smooth.  Stripping a dogs coat is basically pulling out the dead hairs.  You pluck in the direction of the hair growth.  Stripping is for wirecoated breeds.

  4. well if u think its a jack russle tarrier  go ahead

  5. Stripping helps tidy the dog up. It helps getting loose or stray hair off the dog.  Most people use stripping knives on broken and rough coated dogs. Its not common that one be used on a smooth coated dog.

Most people use stripping knives that look like these:

And a lot of people use these (this is the kind I use):

Stripping a rough or broken coat helps the judge see the shape and attributes of the Jrts he/she is judging.

I show and work Jack Russell Terriers in the JRTCA. I've done so for a total of 9 years.

At our house we have 6 Jack Russell Terriers. We've had way more since we breed them. But at the moment.. just 6.

Anywho, their coat types are as follows:

    Daydream Truman- smooth

    Zi's Magic Dream- broken

Mouse- heavy broken but not rough

    Krystal Kourt Laffy Taffy- smooth

Krystal Kourt Scootin' Scamper- light broken

    Rebel Yelp Storm- rough

Hope that helps xD Have a nice day.

  6. Stripping is a method used on wire-haired JRTs only, not ever smooth coated ones.  It will not reduce shedding because the wire hairs on a JRT do not shed out (hence they are needing to be stripped).  Basically stripping is pulling out a portion of the wire hairs with a special tool to give a more uniform appearance to the coat and allow new hair to grow out in its place, since those hairs are not naturally shed.
