Strong acids help please..?

sodium hydroxide is a strong alkali. Strong alkalis may be neutralised with strong acids. When sodium hydroxide is spilled onto clothes or skin, the correct safety procedure is to wash immediately with water. why should a strong acid not be used to neutralise the alkali in this situation?

  1. A strong acid can be bad if it comes in contact with your skin also. Since water is so safe (our wonderful universal solvent), it is recommended as in doing the best job without causing other harmful side affects to your skin. Other acids could harm your skin or clothing. This is a very short and simple explanation but I hope it helps.  


  2. Heat can be generated and burn you. It also wouldn't be a good idea as excess acid will also burn.

  3. Well one of the characteristics of strong acids is that they are corrosive,so if you want to have a test run and see how well your skin can resists burns, you cangive it a try.
