hey i was thinking what is the fastest way to get stronger i have heard that useing a hard gear for ex 53/12 or 110 inches you get stronger and i have heard that pedeling high rpm like 80-120 rpms in a low gear for ex 29/33 or 40 inches is best to get stronger which is true

  1. from what I understand pedaling the hard gear will build muscle, but you will perform most efficiently at 100rpm or so. So as part of your training program why not include some (only some - you need to build cardio and endurance too) hard gears (or hills) and for the events use those muscles at their most efficient rate - 100rpm or so.


  2. Depends on what you mean by stronger.  If you want to be a stronger cyclist, then spin.  If you want to show off bulging muscles then push a big gear.  The issue becomes whether you are into function or cosmetics.

  3. To build strength and power high gears are needed. Lower gears will allow easier spinning and is more effient use of energy.

    I don't know who ever told you easy gears built strength. That's simply silly.

  4. It's quite straightforward. Whatever provides the greatest resistance produces the greatest increase in muscle condition so the hardest gear you are able to cycle in should be what you should use if getting stronger is your only concern.
