Hi, I need a little help. I'm student teaching 10th grade English and the teacher I'm working with is having the class read The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and then write essays based on discussion questions from the back of the book. He wants me to answer all of the questions also to use as a baseline to grade the papers the students turn in. I'm having trouble with #11 below. Any help answering this or any websites that answer it? Thanks!!

11) Discuss how the ever-changing politics of Afghanistan affect each of the characters in the novel.

  1. THE KITE RUNNER? In 10th grade? Um, I know this probably isn't your decision, but I don't think that book is entirely appropriate for 15 year-olds. I mean - homosexual rape? of a child? I love the book for it's insight into Afghani culture, but it deals with some pretty heavy issues.

As far as answering your essay questions, as a student teacher, you really need to do your homework and read the book.  I would hope any would-be teacher would have the honesty to do their own work, especially since that is what you will be expecting from your students.  Your students should be writing their own ideas and not using websites or Yahoo answers on questions like this. And so should you.
