I am thinking of studying abroad next year, or the year after that... I'm going to minor in Spanish [just starting university] so I am thinking of going to a Spanish speaking country to practice my speaking. Right now my number one choice is Spain but I am also considering Mexico... but I have my doubts, some people say it is dangerous in Mexico? I do not want to judge without knowing [because i dont] so I'm wondering.. is it really as dangerous as they say? would it be safe to study abroad in Mexico?

  1. There are some dangerous parts of Mexico, just like there are dangerous parts of the US.  I would suggest somewhere other than Spain.  Spain is kind of cool, but the cities smell bad, and it's VERY expensive.  Why not check out somewhere like Argentina or Peru?  They're more westernized, like Spain, but without the giant price tag.

  2. Hey, I am mexican (no bias there), but had a french roommate in college, she had such a great experience that she extended her stay and had a mexican boyfriend for 4 years after that! Before they got here, they thought we traveled in donkey and had no medications!

I'm sure your university has checked the school you'd be coming to, and wouldn't expose you to any hazard.

When/if you decide to study here, schools will provide assistance upon arrival, help with living arrangements, etc.
