  1. If it is too close to your home, or other buildings, you could burn those down as well.  There are products you can buy to help burn a stump out.  If you do set it on fire, make sure it is a calm day, and you have a hose and phone handy so you can call for back up.  Do not leave fire alone!!

  2. I think there is some prep work that you need to do before you go for it:

There is a tree stump removal product called, "Stump Remover" that breaks down the wood fiber of stumps, leaving them porous. The porous wood then absorbs kerosene readily. After the porous wood is soaked with kerosene and ignited, it will burn away. The flame is a low, smoldering flame. If the use of kerosene and flame is acceptable to you, this is another cheap and easy option for tree stump removal.

  3. Try liquid stump remover.

I tried some once on a big tree stump in my back yard right near the slab for my garage. I had drilled holes in it and put the remover in and nothing happened. The stump was still there. About a year later when I got my new garage they came with a backhoe ready to knock the stump over, but they just touched it with that backhoe's bucket and the stump disintegrated into sawdust!! All it needed was a tap! It was amazing! The contractors looked at me and I just shrugged and smiled.

  4. keep water or a hose nearby!!

    hope this helped=]

  5. You can burn it out by chopping a "dish" in the center of the stump for the fire. Make it a coaling fire, not a raging fire, keep it fed and it will eventually burn out the stump.

Now, the problem with doing this is  that the fire can blow out of the stump and find other fuel; the fire may go underground and burn out the roots and any other fuel that is underground; or you may be doing this burn for weeks if this is a dry hardwood stump.

You're better off using Stump Out or another product to speed the rotting of the stump.  You'll be done in a few weeks or a month and not risk burning down your home or someone else's home.
