how do waivers work? I know I'm stupid, but I'm joining my first league, so I could use some advice.

  1. It might depend on how the league is set up, but generally once you have your roster set this comes into play.

    If you decide that you want to get rid of a player and either do not want to trade them because you already have claimed another player and are having to cut someone to make room or because you cannot find a trade for them - they go on waivers. And with the league I play, all drafts have a 48 hour window to clear as well - the trade can be killed if voted down as unfair by at least 4 teams)

    The way this works is that the player cannot immediately be picked up by another team, they usually have to wait 48-72 hours (what is set up in your league - do not want any secret deals being snuck in just before games) and then it is usually based on the teams rankings as to who gets first shot at them. This is based on draft order until after the first week of the season and then based on standings, worst gets highest picking order. If the player clears waivers, they go into the free agent pool where they can be selected immediately by any team.
