Question:

Sugar cookies WITHOUT 'baking powder'?

I can't seem to find a recipe for sugar cookies on Google that doesn't require baking powder. I have everything else (butter, eggs, flour, sugar, baking soda, vanilla) but that..

Could I substitute the baking powder with baking soda? Or could someone provide a recipe without it?

I don't have anything like buttermilk or cream.. just the stuff you normally have around.

  1. baking powder is a combination of baking soda and cream of tarter....the cream of tarter is the acid that is needed for the soda to leaven....you can replace the cream of tarter with butter milk(which also acts as an acid,...or add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to 1 cup milk and let set for an hour

If you do not have baking powder ...make a short bread cookie,,,which needs no leavening .

    2 cups plain flour

    1/4 t salt

    1 cup butter

    1/2 cup powdered sugar

    1 t vanilla

you can make powdered sugar by running reg sugar in your blender...if you have corn starch.add 1 T per cup of sugar before blending...or you can omit it.
