  1. Make sure you purchase the GMAT The Official Guide by the GMAC. The Official Guide is made by the creators of the GMAT (GMAC) and contains actual (past) GMAT problems. It is essential for good GMAT preparation. Also, go to the MBA.com website and download the free GMAT Prep software which is also made by the GMAC. It is the most accurate representation of the actual GMAT test.

Depending on your familiarity with the material and your target score, other materials that may be beneficial are Princeton Review, Kaplan and ManhattanGMAT. These companies also offer GMAT prep courses.

Repetitive practice is key. You must get the timing of the test down- take advantage of the full length practice tests.

Also, on the logistical side of things, you can only take the test once in 31 days, so leave yourself time to retake the test if need be. Also, while you will receive your scores (minus the AWA score) upon completing the test, your school choices will not receive the official scores for 3 weeks. Make sure you leave plenty of time to meet your application deadlines. In your case, it would most likely be best to take the test as soon as you are prepared and able.

    Good luck!
