Question:

Suitable attire for a job interview?

Okay, so I'm going to have a look round a prospective place of work on Friday and have an interview. It is a hacking centre, BHS approved and provides lessons too. They hunt in the winter, the job is of groom. I am not expected to ride this Friday so what should I wear? I was thinking smart jeans and a t-shirt/polo shirt - would this be okay? Any advice appreciated lol!

  1. When I used to interview grooms I would take them round the yard and fields and have them handle a couple of horses, so I wouldn't have expected smart clothes. I think neat and clean is what you want. Your idea wouldn't have been a problem if I'd been interviewing you. Take wellies too - show initiative!

  2. a polo shirt with a collar and khaki slacks seem to be the industry standard.  this is what the pro's wear who handle horses at beed shows, inspections, kuerings.  it is also generally the uniform that people who work at large professional training centers.  iw ould leave the jeans for when you get the job:)  good luck!

  3. you need to look nice for any job interview (even one in a barn ;) ). I would recommend a nice (but not like silk or anything too fancy) button down shirt (one of my barn friends wore her show shirt to a job interview-the interviewer never knew the difference!) and a pair of clean khakis. with closed toe nice shoes (no heels). And I would bring a change of clothes in your car in case they want to you to do anything, and just politely ask, do you mind if I change clothes real quick?

Dressing nice for an interview shows respect for the interviewer and that you really want the job. So it's better to over dress a little, than under dress.

  4. I think that is too casual for a job interview even if it is at a stable.

I suggest khaki pants and a polo or other collared shirt.

If its a BHS facility they are probably more formal than other facilities might be.

At any job interview, it's best to come from the perspective of 'here is what I can do for you' as opposed to 'please give me a job.'

    Good luck.

  5. I think your outfit sounds good, if a little too casual.

Just make sure your jeans aren't too tarty :) You also might want to bring some riding gear JUST IN CASE they decide you should ride. Wear suitable but cool footwear as well, you might get a bit dirty ;)

  6. Hi once again!

I think smart jeans - but not denim coloured - maybe dark brown or black.

Polo shirt and a quilted jacket or Barbour etc.

As footwear I would suggest joddie boots. (Sensible and safe)

    GOOD LUCK!!

  7. Jeans may be ok if they are a nice looking pair of jeans, not the hipsters or butt crack showing ones. I think that if you have a nice pair of khaki pantsto wear instead, and a polo shirt; it would make a better impression. It will show that you are serious about the interview and not just looking for a job. Some people see jeans as inappropriate attire for any interview.

    Good luck

  8. i think that will be nice, casual, but still cool same time

  9. I would go with the polo.. and maybe Kaiki pants instead of jeans. But it s just for a grooming position. Also, you may want to bring clothes to ride just in case (better to be prepared than not!)

Good Luck with your interview!!! :)
