why are the colors during sun set often so much more vibrant than those during sun rise?

  1. It takes a day to build up water vapour in the air such that light starts bending at low altitudes.

    As for instance the sun may appear to be above the horizon, but we are seeing only a red image of it, red because direct rays from the sun are cut off by the horizon, we are seeing only the most  bent light.

    By the way, the sun does not rise and set, it is the world spinning round. ;)

    Seriously, it's all the trapped vapor in the air that makes the rays look different colors.
