  1. Omega 3 has been should to help relieve stress, both physicaly and mentally.

I would not take iron.  Plenty of that in food as it is.

Calcium will have almost no effect with this.

Certain vitamins can help, but it sounds like your mother needs to either do a little more research, or tell you the real reason she wants you to take em.

  2. I have to disagree with one of the answers already given.  Sorry but calcium is one of the supplements that you SHOULD be taking.  It has to be taken in the lqiud form though as the other type can lead to kidney stones.  It comes in soft gel capsules but is a must in the body.  If taken with magnessium it will help to absorb into the body quicker.

A deficiency in calcium can lead to hypertension (high blood pressure), anxiety, irritability, muscle spasms, depression, insomnia as well as the ones we associate with it in bad bones, teeth and hair.  A lot of people do not associate their symptoms with calcium deficiency and if they only took the liquid calcium they would feel a whole lot better and not need anti depressants and other drugs.  Hope this helps you.  Your mother is correct in trying to get you to take supplements.  There are plenty on the market but she should certainly think about a multi vitamin that is time released throughout the day.

  3. Thr right combo of calcium and magnesium together can be calming. Also the right forms. In my son, mag by itself didn't help but with calcium it did.

Is her problem mainly anxiety? If so try some Inositol.

  4. The omega 3 fatty acid DHA has been reported to be useful in depression/anxiety. but it is far from proven.

DHA is found in really high concentrations in our brains and we don't know why. So anything to do with the brain (memory, development, intelligence) is being investigated for links with DHA. Thats why DHA is in baby formula. But we don't actually know what kind of effect it has or why so much of it is in our brains.

You could try it our. It wont hurt. A better way than supplements to get DHA would be to consume 2-3 fish meals per week.

As for the other vitamins (including calcium) they do not have an effect on depression/ anxiety. You will get plenty of those from a healthy diet. Plus a lot of other things like flavanoids, fiber etc.

  5. It may, but I think potentially the greater issue could be hormone imbalances. Have you had them checked? Try to find a good naturopath and see if they can help you with your anxiety.
