Surf Instructor Salary?

What would you say would be an average pay for a surf instructor?

+The pay varies based on where you live, if you are certified, if you give private lessons or group lessons, and if you own the school or work for a school.  In my area, group lessons generally run from $50 to $70 per person per 1 1/2 hrs.  Private lessons are between $100 to $120 per 1 1/2 hr.  Some schools offer 1 hr lessons for less.  The certified instructor usually gets between $60 and $75 per hour, while uncertified instructors are in the $50 range.  One very important point is if the instructor or surf school carries insurance or not.  The instructor has several direct liability issues and if someone gets hurt, you can loose everything you own without insurance.  There are many instructors giving lessons that are neither certified or carry insurance.  It that case, they might be able to make more money, but they take a huge risk.  For more information you might want to look on the NSSIA web site.
