Surface dive, lifeguarding, help?

I have to do a surface dive 10 ft. today for a lifeguard test. I've never practiced!! My ears are going to pop so bad! What should I do? Any suggestions?

  1. To me the idea surface dive will be, when you get over the spot you want to dive it. Push your body up in the air,while getting all the air out of your lungs, then inhale as much as you can. Since your ears pop, I'd swallow with your mouth closed every so often.

    I bet you've done it before, remember doing a handstand in the pool? Thats a surface dive except its deeps, you want to keep your body vertical as much as you can. When you get the diving brick (10 lbs) then your going to want to push off with your feet. Not that hard


  2. Hold your nose and try to breath out gently through your nose until the pressure equalizes.
