Question:

Surfing exercise routine?

I live in Jersey and the winters are unbearable for surfing... 35 degree water and 20 degree windchills. I'll go out when theres waves but theres no way to just paddle out everyday for a workout.

Been wondering what the best way to get in shape for surfing is, outside of the act of surfing itself. I checked out surfline.com and they had a great swim workout which I do maybe twice a week but I'm looking for more.

I do the perfect pushup and stretch on a daily basis. Anything else to get ready for the spring?

Thanks in advance.

  1. DONT LET YOUR SURFING BECOME A DISCIPLINE. SURFING IS AN ART NOT AN EXTREME SPORT. IF YOU START TREATING IT LIKE ITS A SPORT LIKE FOOTBALL OR TENNIS WHERE YOU HAVE TO STAY ULTRA FIT, YOU WILL LOOSE THE STOKE. BE YOUR SELF,

  2. i go to this site http://www.iwantsixpackabs.com/my_video_...

im on my 5th week and i feel so good. you can see my six pack a little.

  3. Dry suit for sure and maybe pick up on some cardio.  Staying out in the water in Jersey is a killer.  I'd say do about a 30 minute jog every day, crunches, sit-ups and whatever swim routine you've gotten from surfline.  I personally smin laps at my front pool.  10 laps for the first round, 5 minute break and than 15 laps.  Just repeat that for an hour or so, after that I take my run home.  When you get home just do your sit-ups and crunches.

  4. try doing pull ups and other exersizes.  or you can buy a dry suit which will keep you warmer.  or you can go on a vacation to a place where its warm in the summer to go surfing.

    have fun

  5. Buy a dry suit.  I lived in Va. Beach for a couple of years, and the water there is also very cold, but I surfed every day with my wet suit and on very cold days, my dry suit

  6. Balance boards are a great way to stay in shape out of the water.

I got an Indo board here:

Works the legs and keeps my balance in tune.

    Have fun!
