Surfing in Honolulu?

I'm moving to Honolulu or Waikiki at the end of august. I love to surf. Are there any good surf spots close by? How's the water? Will I need a wet suit in the winter months?

There is good surfing in Honolulu in the summer months with a number of breaks on the southshore of Oahu.  You will not need more than a vest or maybe shortjohn for those windy days and early mornings.  The north shore is also just a short drive away, but if you had to ask this question you probably should stick to the south shore until you are more comfortable and then you can work you way up to the north pacific's juicy.
