Surprise party!?

i want to throw my mom a surprise graduation party. i dont wanna spend a lot of money. any ideas?

Is there an aunt or somebody that you can ask for help with it? Like if your mom has a sister, or another family member she or you are close with, or your dad anyone at all?  If so, I would ask them if they could help you out with some of the expenses like food, etc.  I would do it at your house this way everyone can be comfortable and you can decorate it anyway you want.  You can go to a local party store and buy decorations or even make them yourself.  With all the clip art sites on the computer, just search free clip art and you should find tons of things you can print out and hang around the house.  You can do streamers and balloons for some decorations and even bake the cake yourself, I'm sure that would mean more to her than a bakery.  You can even do a cake from Costco which or even Carvel.

As for food, that's where it would help to get the help of others.  You could ask everyone to make something or you could take on that responsibility yourself.  I would just ask everyone if they could please help and bring one dish, but keep track of who's bringing what so you don't have doubles of anything.   You can grill foods, have a chicken and meat dish, a salad, rolls, and a vegetable dish.  The dessert will be the cake or even cupcakes, they are the hottest things now you can make them youself and find a creative way to make them, like make little mortarboards on top (they're the graduation caps, you can take square cookies and put them on top like the square cap) or you can put one letter on each one to spell out congratulations and her name and the year, etc.  You can also go to one of the warehouse places like Sam's, BJs, Costco and get a very big cake there very reasonable, or even a Carvel cake.

Decorate in the colors of the school that she is graduating from.  Usually you can know that by the going to the school's website or checking out any piece of clothing usually a shirt or something that has the school's logo, even a folder with the logo and you can find out the colors. Use that as your base for the cake/cupcakes, streamers, balloons, and I would get your mom a corsage being it's her special day. You can even do the corsage in those colors or make them her favorite flowers.

You don't have to go huge or over the top, you just ask everyone for their help with making something, get some decorations, bake a dessert, don't forget the napkins and flatware, and sodas, which is where you can ask others for help, and you're done. I'm sure whatever you do, will mean SO much to mom!  Even if you just had a cake that would mean the world to her!  It's the thought that counts and I'm sure anything you do for her will mean a lot!  You're very sweet for thinking of her and doing this for her.
