Surprise selection of Michael Beer
Can this "Beer" finally chill out the selectors? It has been a shock for the fans, a shock for the cricket pundits and above all the selection of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Beer-c1949 is a shock for himself. The Australian selectors have tried all sorts of combinations and they
have not been able to find a winning one. After the team was announced for the third Test, the left arm orthodox spinner Beer was a surprise for one and all.
The Australian cricket team has been struggling to find a quality spinner after the great Shane Warne retired from the sport. The selectors have tried different spinners but none was able to perform as expected. Many spinners have come in the team and have
been axed soon after. Michael Beer would hope that he doesn’t add to the list of the axed spinners.
Beer has played just five first-class matches and was named in the squad. He made his debut in first-class cricket in October, before that he had been playing in Melbourne. In his short career, he hasn’t got many wickets to justify his position but he has
been able to impress the selectors to be inline for being the 418th Test cricketer for Australia.
This is not the first time that the selectors have made such a choice. Back in 1986-87, Peter http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 to a victory by claiming eight wickets in the match including a
six wicket haul in the first innings. Prior to that math, Peter had featured in just six first-class matches. This was the only Test which Australia won in the series which was already decided as England had won two matches out of four in the series.
Beer was excited on being selected for the Ashes and said that the news didn’t sink until he rang his parents and told them about his selection. Just a year ago, Beer wasn’t a professional cricketer; he then started playing cricket for West Australia before
moving to Perth to represent the Warriors. He cherishes the move to Perth which he thinks gave him better opportunities to showcase his talent.
The coach of his state, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969 believes that Beer is an exceptional talent. According to Arthur, Beer will be able to cope with the competitiveness of international cricket. Although, Beer hasn’t had a huge success in the domestic arena, Arthur believes
that he will be a useful commodity in just a year’s time.
The axed spinner Xavier Doherty was disappointed at being left out form the side. Doherty thinks that the selectors have been making decisions in panic and haste. There have been many changes in the squads of all the three matches of the Ashes. Doherty believes
that a consistent chance should be given to any spinner to show his true potential.
Michael Beer may have made it to the squad but that doesn’t mean that he will be in the playing eleven. The spinner will have to wait for that opportunity. Even if he is selected in the playing eleven, it will not be easy for him to perform against an in-form
English side. He will have to make sure that he performs to a level where he can prove that he is the spinner which the selectors have been searching for. There will be also some pressure on him as he may be in the axed spinners list very soon just like Doherty.
