I've had swimmers ear for about 3 days now, and I've been putting swimmers ear drops(bought at drug store) in the ear every day....but it still hasn't cleared up. How would I know if it's infected and what should I do??? I think I have it in the other ear too but not as bad...

  1. When you swim try using ear plugs they work and if ur ear starts to hurt then go to the docter and I dont htink it will hurt but you would rather go then not be sure if your ear is infected cause if something is infected it could get worse !!!

  2. go to a doctor

  3. I use 93% strength alcohol to prevent Swimmer's Ear.  I used to add a drop of Boric Acid to the little bottle, but have found no difference when leaving that out.

Remember that the Swimmer's Ear solution you buy at the Drug Store is supposed to be a preventative, not a cure.  If you have very mild symptoms, it may clear up on its own and using the solution daily may help speed that up.  It may take several days.

However, if the ear becomes very painful to touch, it is time to see the Doctor.  The usual treatment is antibiotics as well as disinfectant and soothing ear-drops.  Using the ear-drops may be a little painful, more likely a tickling sensation, but that is the best way to clear up the problem.

If you continue to Swim with an Ear Infection it will take considerably longer to clear it up and could even worsen it.  See your Doctor for specific information.

  4. A lot of swimmers use a mixture of alcohol and vinegar. The alcohol dries up the moisture while the vinegar kills bacteria. If it is really painful (like you don't even want to touch any part of your ear), see a Dr. They will give you a stronger antibiotic.

  5. The solution I believe newcastlegrl is referring to is a mixture of 2 parts alcohol to 1 part vinegar, as per my Dr. Whom I made a visit to only yesterday for the same problem. He prescribed a Cortisporin Otic Solution to help clear up the mild infection that I have and recommended the above solution to use after I swam.

When your ear is infected you will more than likely feel pain in your ear / jaw area when you bend over, talk or eat. As it gets worse, you will more than likely continue to feel the pain no matter what you're doing.

According to my Doc, ear infections should not be taken lightly as they can cause severe pain and hearing loss in the affected ear.

Bottom line, if you're ear hurts or you are hearing a liquid sound, you should go to the doctor and have him check it out. Best to catch them early and start treatment than to live with the pain.

  6. if you push under your ears by ur jaw and it hurts then its swimmers ear.

you shoudl make your own anyway. with vinegar and water.

and just go to the doctor theyll look and give you medicine.
