Question:

Swimming and weight training.

I have a question, obviously, for you yahoo answers. I'm 15 years old, and I swim for a competitive swim team. I swim about 5 hours a day, 2 practices a day, 5 days a week. Each practice is split into 2 hours and 30 minutes of water training. I want to start weight training, but I don't know how to start, how often to do it, and a decent program with it. My dad has a home weight training set in the garage, with exercises for arms, legs, and chest.

Thanks.

  1. i agree with the other two there. also i would recommend getting on a rowing  machine and really working the traps and the delts. and if you are going to lift weights to do lots of weight. you want to be thin and sleek in the water, not big and bulky. low weight and lost of reps will help you out with that. also, work your core, it will help with your balance in the water.

  2. when i doing competitive swimming

we would do some running every day

    built your self up

    maybe start with a mile

    and then work yourself up

    do light weights

    just to tone your muscles

and give them some thing different all the time

that way your body doesn't get use to the same routine

it does help just dont over do it

make sure you give your body some rest

    and by changing it up

    it will give \\\

  3. i would recomend only using wiegts maybe once a week. you should really focus on resistance (like big rubber band type things) and water practices.

  4. well swimmers don't weight train as much as other atheletes in other sports

i suggest you work your biceps and deltoids because they help you pull

In swimming the strokes come before building strenght
