Swimming times, what is fast?

i want to join a swimming club but dont want to look like a wanker by swimming slow times.

I am an alright swimmer but want to know what sort of times i should be doing ?

So my question is a good time for a 17 year old in any style?

Im 6ft 122lbs if that makes any diffrence oh and im a size 11.5 shoe.

  1. I swim for a team i am 14 and my times are

    16-freestyle

    22-breastroke

    20-backstroke

    25-fly

    but i am not particularly fast

    Fast is a relative term. Do you want to know what's fast on a global basis, national basis, state basis, city basis, club basis, block basis?

    if you can get your fifty free under 25 you'll be fine for hs...i think...

    if you wanna swim for club team then the times are gonna be faster but still just try to get under a 25 in 50 free...maybe if you could break 1:00 in 100 that would be good too.

  4. For a non-competetive Club swimmer you wouldn't look like a total beginner if you could do breaststroke - 25 metres in, say, 25 seconds.  Get it down to under 20 seconds you're beginning to get towards County Trials standard.

    Free style and you're looking at something a little faster.

    Everyone has to start somewhere and they won't think any the less of you for being a newcomer; you'll build up speed as you build up strength and learn techniques.

    You sound as though you're built for speed not comfort!
