i have 2 danios that i have in a 2 gallon fish tank. i have a 10 gallon laying around but i dont have a filter for it. i dont have 30 dollars right now to spend on one. i was wondering if i can move the 3 gallon filter to the 10 gallon fish tank and still have a nice clean tank since there are only 2 fish in a 10 gallon tank, and thats not alot.

  1. You might be alright if you take out the filter first and let the 10G cycle for a few days because otherwise your fish could die from nitrite or ammonia poisoning

  2. Yes that will work.

If the filter can support the 2 fish in a 2gal tank it can support the same 2 fish in a 10gal.

You wont have to cycle the 10gal if you move the filter and fish in together.

Just get a bigger filter before you add any more fish to the 10gal, and run both filters in the tank for a while to let the new filter establish some cycle.

  3. yeah as long as you have 2 fish in it its filter will work fine but the more fish needs a better  fillter your limit i say would be 4-5 i think dont quote me lol gl

  4. Probably not if you want you water conditions to remain good.  I wouldn't risk it until I could set up the other tank.

  5. I would do it temporarily because they are at least getting some filtration. I would however try to get a 10 gal filter as soon as possible and a good way to find one is to go to craigslist. I have got all of my filters from craigslist...of course they came with the tanks but you can get a 10 gallon with a filter for about $15 bucks and still have another backup tank...or you can wait until you find that good deal and then move them.
