Switzerland Sightseeing?

Question

I am planing a trip to Switzerland this fall, and besides the alps, I know nothing of the place.I need sightseeing Ideas.I will be landing in Zurich and staying there with a friend for about two weeks.

also, what are some good activities for a child (10-12) on an airplane ride?

I haven't been everywhere in Switzerland, but if you want some nice scenery, I'd recommend Montreux, Lucerne, Ascona (near Locarno/Lugano), Thun and just general driving or taking trains around the mountains.

A couple of cities to check out are Lugano, Lucerne and Basel. They make some great chocolate there. I recommend a travel book by lonely planet on Switzerland, that'll give you a great idea for things to do. It's a bit expensive but an awesome place. It has a very interesting history and everywhere you go is unique.

I've been to Swiss a couple of times and from my expiriance, I advertise you first of all to rent a car, therefore you're be able to reach your points of destination easily. Well, undoubtly you should visit the area of Alsace (Colmar, one one the main attractions, is a lovely living fairytale and every moment there is magical). Also, you should visit Vevey (where ther's statue dedicated to Charlie Chaplin), Geneve (Just for the shopping and checking the hottest coffe shops), Montre (where nearby ther's a gorgeous castle), Murten (adoreable little town). Please remember, that most of the shops are closing at about 6 p.m., so beware! :)

Ahh man Switzerland. First off go the Bahnhof (Rail station)and get a train pass to any city. From Zurich you can take the train to any of the Major cities.

In Bern you can see all of the foreign embassies and stop at the clock tower, which is a huge CooKoo Clock. Also in Bern is the Bern bears and the Rose Garden which overlooks the entire city.

A Must is Geneva and Lake Lemon. Geneva is home to major shopping, a huge natural powered fountain, the United Nation, UNICEF, and the head quarters of just about any major association. Also are the formers homes of Regan, and Yeltsin. While in Geneva get some Crepes. Keep in mind Geneva is pricey, and the Euro is double the american dollar right now.

At the other end of Lac Lemon is the town of Monteaux. It is gorgeous. Huge castle overlooking the Lake. Also a nice walk way next to the water where there is a lot happening at night. Not far from here is the town of Evian, France, where the home of Evian Water is. It is a nice town.

Then you MUST go to Gruyère. It is where they make Gruyère cheese. The town is quiant and small, but the castle is awesome and you have to tour it. Also, all of the cows have bells and it is pretty cool. Near by there is a little place that specializes in Fondue. Prepare to eat and drink a ton.

Aaah...you sooooooooooooo gotta go to Solothurn...It's actually the most beautiful town in Switzerland (even sais so on the sign by the side of the road)...^ ^ It's all built in Barock and has a beautiful cathedral and omg...so nice...^ ^ It's in the Kanton (Prefecture) of Solothurn and it's like 30 Minutes with train or car from Bern...
