Switzerland Wedding Help!!

I am trying to plan a wedding in Switzerland (anywhere b/c it's all beautiful) next fall, but all of the wedding planners, which are sparse, are really expensive. Can anyone give me advice on trying to plan it myself (which I'd prefer not to) or finding a really good, but less expensive wedding planner? Help!! Thanks in advance:)

  1. I suggest to contact one of the two expat websites below. Both have hundreds of members who speak English and reside in Switzerland. Someone there will certainly know about wedding planning and how to do it in Switzerland.

I agree with the others that Switzerland is VERY expensive. Most expensive is labor. Anything that requires someone to do something for you will be outrageously expensive. Therefore, you might be better off to get married at home and have a reception in Switzerland or just have your honeymoon in Switzerland. Check the third website below for possible travel destinations in Switzerland.

  2. There is no need for a DMC ! Just contact the visitor offices to get help and advice. First page to start is: http://www.myswitzerland.com/en.cfm/home

And yes, Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in Europe. Therefore it can be hard to find something that will match your budget and expectations.

I do not know what is your favorite location so far, but if you choose Geneva, Zurich or St. Moritz for example you will have almost no chance to get anything cheap. Beside that, there are so many small villages all over Switzerland that provide excellent things.

To be able to give you more ideas and help it would be interesting to know what kind of wedding you are looking for? How many people will participate? Anything specific what you expect and / or looking for? What should the wedding be like, what is it you are looking for or dreaming of?

I know Switzerland very well, just contact me in case you have more questions.

    Happy wedding :-)

  3. Try to contact the convention and visitors' bureau in your destination city to get recommendations for a DMC - destination management company, or wedding planner.

This is what I do when doing events outside of my city.

  4. Switzerland is one of the most expensive countries in Europe. Right now with the dollar dropping like a rock, you will have sticker shock, if you buy the simplest item. I have a different suggestion. Try one of the great lodges in the Canadian Rockies, like Banff. I'd suggest the Prince of Wales at Waterton, but I am not sure how late they stay open in the fall, and its a bit more difficult to get to. There are also some great hotels in Glacier National Park that would be amazing for your event. I've been to Switzerland, the Rockies, and most of the countries in Europe, and bang for the buck, you'll do better staying here. The money you save can be put away for a rainy day account.
