Symbol p370 scanner weak signal

Question

I have a couple of these p370 wireless scanners. One has a significantly weaker signal (cannot be used as far away from the cradle) than the other. Could this be a dodgy battery? Problem with the scanner itself? Trying to get to the bottom of it. Many thanks.
