Question:

Symbols when booking cruise?

I am looking at booking a cruise with Carnival. When I use the "intellidek" it shows which room I can choose but they have different symbols. Some have a star or a dot of a diamond. Any idea what these mean?

  1. The symbols indicate how many and what kind of beds are in the cabin.  A cabin with no symbol just has two beds that can be pushed together to make one queen sized bed.

If the site you are on uses the same symbols that Carnival uses, then:

All the rooms have two twin beds that can be pushed together plus the following unless otherwise noted ...

. (one dot) means there is one upper bed (a bed that comes out of ceiling)

: (two dots) means there are two upper beds

a triangle means there is one twin bed and a single sleeper sofa

a star means there is a single sleeper sofa

a square means that there is a single sleeper sofa and one upper bed

t (a cross) means there is a double sleeper sofa

x means there is just a queen sized bed (not two twins)

a diamond means that the cabin has two port holes

    * (asterisk) means the twin beds cannot be pushed together

< indicates that the two rooms have a inside connecting door between them

  2. If you have a cruise catalog of current/future cruises, there is a better explanation in the book where descriptions of the ship are given.  Likely, the symbols mean type of room.  The catalog will show where the room is, what the symbol means, size of the room, and answers to any other questions you have.  The online booking site may not be as detailed as the book.  Note:  Carnival is a "fun" cruise; you party from the time you get onboard (all day/night, during meals, etc) until you disembark at the other end of the cruise.

  3. they tell you if its a disabled room, a room with bunk beds which can hold 4 people or if the room has an obstructed view (usually by the lifeboats). but i dont know which symbol is for which thing. there should be a key next to the deck plan
