TOFEL test?

i'm a american born chinese. Right now i'm living in Hong Kong and am planning to go to America for college. Do i have to take the TOFEL test? or is it alright that i not take it?

You may need to sit the TOEFL test if your native language is not English and:

-You are applying to study at a university in the US.- Applying to be a teaching assistant as part of your (post)graduate program at a US university.- Applying for a license to work as a doctor or nurse in the US. -Applying for university entrance or professional licensure.

Many US institutions do not require you to sit the TOEFL test if:

-You have a degree or diploma from a postsecondary institution in an English-speaking country. OR Successfully completed at least a two-year course of study in which English was the language of instruction.

Your best bet is to check the admissions criteria of the College/University you tend plan on applying to in order to determine if you need to take the test.
