my leaves on my tomatoe plants are yellowing with brown edges then fall off. what could be the problem?

  1. Tomatoes simply tend to do that as the season progresses. It usually starts from the bottom and heads up. However, seeing as it is only July, that phase shouldn't have kicked in yet (it usually starts during the decline of the prime season, e.g. around September).

    Sounds like you may be underwatering them. How often they get a drink (both rain and hose)? Try using fertilizer in addition to the water. Also, tomato plants can get pretty big, so it is ideal to prune them, just like any large shrub. If it is only the leaves that are going bad, cut the problem ones off. If your plants have an excess amount of growth, trim that off as well. Regulating the plant's size will allow more energy to go into the size and quality of the tomatoes you pick.
