  1. I don't know about you, but my TKD instructor is a certified Olympic Couch and we have to go through him to get in the Olympics. Ask your master about it.

  2. Try leaving your ego at the door.

  3. .... purple belt....? I'm sorry, but I honestly doubt that they would let anyone short of black join, once you do get a black belt, talk to your master, if he's certified enough, and has good enough connections, he could get you in ..... until then, if the olympics are your true goal, you're going to have to focus very hard on your *********, try to be a little more humble, but keep a little *********, based on what I've seen, if you know that you're going to win, even if your opponent is better than you, that confidence is going to make you stronger.

  4. You need to make sure you are at a "WTF" Tae Kwon Do school.

Then you need to get your black belt.

I had a couple of students, both under 20, that have been winning first place throughout the Detroit area and throughout the Michigan and Ohio regions.  They were both pretty cocky and I kept telling them that local competitions were nothing compared to nationals.

This year, I took them to nationals, while some of my students did very well, these two students learned a lesson in humility.  Although most fights are 2, two minute rounds, any time their is a scoring differential of 7 points (8-1, 7-0), then the fight is over.  Well, one of them lost 7-0 in 13 seconds, the other lost 9-2 in 32 seconds.  It was a big wake up call for them.  On the bright side, they are both training much harder since nationals, and they are spending less time chit chatting and more time training!

Talk to your master about the Olympics, but it will take a while.

  5. Depends how old you are. I am 13 and I was on the junior national sparring team and believe me, if you think you are good, you have no idea how wrong you are. It takes months of hard training to get to the olympics. You need to eat, sleep, and train at all times to be a fighter.
